Artwave 2026: NOCTURNE

Saturday 5 & Saturday 19 September 2026

The Woodshed, Hamsey NOCTURNE was the premiere of Beautifully Damaged, our first feature film.

The film was created by Felicity Stuart-Menteath, who wrote the brief and set out what it would explore. It was made in collaboration with filmmaker Adrian Peckitt, with music written, performed and produced by Nava Kazemi.Beautifully Damaged looks at the marks experience leaves on people, landscapes and memory, and at home, not as a place but as a feeling of safety and belonging. It moves between humanitarian archive, nature, ritual and the beauty industry’s idea of perfection, and asks what happens when we begin to see beauty differently.We screened it outdoors in the garden at The Woodshed, after dark, with everyone sitting around the firelight. We were inundated. Thank you to everyone who came.

Adrian Peckitt: Photography Exhibition

Alongside the film, Adrian exhibited a selection of his photographic work, on show all day and into the night on both Saturdays.

Adrian is a photographer and filmmaker, co-creator of Beautifully Damaged, and the photographer behind Menteath’s latest body of imagery. The exhibition carried our ongoing collaboration around landscape, material, body and place from the daylight hours through to the screening after dark.

The Day Around It

The film was the heart of NOCTURNE, but the garden was open from midday.

There was drumming, breathwork, gentle movement, The Sacred Healing Garden, and seated massage with Clare and Yolanda. Adrian’s photography was exhibited throughout.

Savino of Giannella Olive Oil bringing his amazing olive oil from Puglia to host tastings of this beautiful oil which we also use in our Smoked Bay Body Ritual. FyrFly ran the bar from midday until late.

The Food

Both evenings celebrated the first year of Foodwave alongside Artwave, with a guest chef each night, and both were epic.

Saturday 5 September: Theo Sanchez
Theo, one of the founding members of Michelin-reviewed Dill in Lewes, is a maverick who isn’t afraid to push the limits of food and artistry. He created a series of sweet and savoury bites in response to the light installation, each one built around fermentation and moving between black and white, changing colour and different intensities.

Saturday 19 September: Mikey McDuffie
Just days earlier, Mikey and his brother had hosted Downs to Table, the Foodwave supper club celebrating food grown, reared, caught, foraged and made within 20 miles of Lewes. At NOCTURNE we were lucky enough to get a second round, with Mikey serving some of those dishes again as a free feast for everyone in the garden.
